Grade 7 and 8 students got to show off their basketball skills at Beaver Brae yesterday.
The school hosted its first intermediate basketball tournament for eight girls teams and eight boys teams. In addition to Broncos and Saints teams, Open Roads and New Prospect schools in Dryden joined in on the fun.
Beaver Brae teacher Jared Milko explained why they put on the tournament for the first time.
“We need to give our kids and an opportunity just to play and get an appreciation for the game,” Milko said. “We have a lot kids in Kenora, a lot of kids outside of Kenora who want to play, so if we can provide them a platform to play then they're going to take it. And by the looks of things they're really enjoying themselves.”
Milko noted they'd like to make it an annual event. Funds raised through registration and a bake sale are going towards Triple PLAY.
