Brandon Stanley led Lac Seul to a $22,000 payday Sunday. They took the A-side title at the Northern Bands tournament in Dryden.
"It means everything. Representing our community and coming out here with a win. It shows a lot of hard work and I'm proud of these guys," he said, after their 9-3 victory over Maaming (Kasabonika).
"I love this tournament. It's a full week tournament. You get to bond with your friends and family. It's just a great place to be for a week," said the former Thistle.
After the presentations, Wasaya president Michael Rodynouk was thrilled with the event.
"Oh, it was fantastic," he said. "To see these young people out here skating hard, going for the puck, making some serious plays."
After noting another packed house for the final, Rodynouk said they would be back again next year to sponsor the tournament.
