The numbers for the 2018 polar plunge are in.
Throughout the winter, over 1300 Ontarians braved the freezing waters all in support of Special Olympics Ontario. 21 plunges were held across the province raising $366,000. With these funds, over 25,000 Special Olympics athletes living in Ontario can continue to live their dream and compete in sporting programs which promote acceptance, inclusion and self-worth.
Kenora did its part, too.
28 people took pledges, took the plunge and together, raised $8800.00. This money will directly benefit Kenora's Special Olympic bowlers Meghan Wheatstone, Scott Malmo and Shane Legros. They are headed to Prince Edward Island for the 2018 Special Olympics Canada Bowling Championships on May 14 - 20.
The Polar Plunge was organized by the Kenora detachment of the OPP as part of the Kenora Winter Carnival Community Day.
