Trey Palermo scored the winner for the Dryden Ice Dogs, as they beat the English River Miners 5-2 last night.
The Ice Dogs are looking for more of the same tonight, as they play the rematch in Game 2 at the Dog Pound.
After the final whistle last night, Palermo talked about getting the game winner and the victory.
"It feels pretty good. Game 1 was pretty hard. We need a better effort tomorrow night, for sure. They're battling pretty hard, but we know we can go harder," he said.
Dryden opened the scoring and led 1-0 after the first, then added two more for a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes. The second period got prolonged, after a check-from-behind led to some fighting.
When the dust settled, 18 penalties had been handed out, including match penalties to five players.
The win gives the Ice Dogs a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven final. Puck drop for Game 2 at the Memorial Arena is set for 7:30 this evening.
