Ricky Houle of Wauzhushk Onigum (Rat Portage) is enjoying his time in Ottawa.

The 17-year-old is in his first season with the Canada Topflight Basketball Academy.

He's been pleased with how things have been going since his arrival in September.

“Things have been going good, I've been learning lots,” Houle says. “It was definetely a bit of an adjustment at first, but now I think it's bigger than basketball. Basketball is just a small part of it. It's more about learning all of the life skills.”

Houle says he's been welcomed with open arms.

“The people there are so nice,” Houle says. “I love the city. It's not chaotic, it's kind of just like a big town. That's what I like about it. And the people make me feel at home there.”

Houle returned to the Kenora area for a visit over the holidays, where he made sure to note how much he doesn't miss the extreme cold.
