It was the month of Mastromatteo in August. He won three medals – a gold, silver and bronze - at the Junior Pan Pacific 2018 swim meet in Fiji, and broke a Canadian record for his age group, beating the national record by more than a second.

Those weren’t the only medals for local athletes. Local rower Abby Dent won two gold medals in two separate regattas. She also won a bronze medal at last year’s Canada Summer Games.

After Kenora’s Summer Brawl Event, Phil Lauzon of United Fighter raised his hand after scoring a knockout victory in the main event.

"It feels amazing," he said after with a big grin."First knockout in the first round. It felt awesome."

The Lake of the Woods Speedway held their official season opener. The races featured three classes, where #2T Derek Pollock of Winnipeg, MB took the top spot for Pure Stock, #15 Mike Demchuk of Dufresne, MB placed first in 4 Cylinder and #44 Austin Hunter also of Winnipeg came out on top in the Wissota Midwest Modifieds class.

Northern Harbour took home the Days Inn Ladies Slo Pitch League championship. They went undefeated in the playoffs to claim the A side championship, finishing their season with a record of 39-2-2.
