The NorWOSSA 'A' Championships for court sports are coming to Kenora.
St. Thomas Aquinas will be playing host to the tournament on February 15-16.
The Saints earned the honour by virtue of their senior boys basketball, and both junior and senior girls volleyball teams finishing first in their divisions through regular season play.
Megan Derouard, head coach of the senior girls team, discussed the opportunity to host.
“When you get that feeling to be able to play on your home court -- it doesn't matter who you are or where you come from – there's nothing better than to be able to play in front of your home crowd and have the familiar surroundings of the court for the kids,” Derouard said. “I'm really excited. I know the girls we're really happy last night knowing that some of them get to spend their last NorWOSSA games at home and have all their students and peers with them for it.”
Semi-final games will take place at T.A. on Wednesday, February 15. The three Saints clubs have byes into the finals, and it will play for their championships on Thursday, February 16.
The community is encouraged to come support the teams. Schedules will be confirmed in the coming days.
