Kenora's Melissa Wilcox, Dryden's Olivia Carter, and Sioux Lookout's Sydnee Lawrence can add national champion to their resumes.

The KPDSB alumni are all part of the Lakehead Thunderwolves women's hockey team, who won the American Collegiate Hockey Association National Championship over the weekend.

The Thunderwolves defeated North Dakota State University 3-1 for the title.

The took the lead 10:27 into the first period, with Dryden's Olivia Carter scoring their second goal 9:26 into the second period, thanks to an assist from Sydnee Lawrence from Sioux Lookout.

They took a 3-0 lead heading into the third. North Dakota tried stay in the game, earning their first and only goal 7:26 into the third.

In the end it was the Thunderwolves who took home the victory.
