A convoy of trucks and big rigs is making its way from Alberta to Ottawa. Glenn Carrit explains what it's all about.
"We need to get our oil and gas industry back in order. We've got to get our pipelines to tidewater, and we need to get our government using Canadian oil," he said.
Carrit says they left Red Deer Thursday with 159 trucks, and they hope to reach the Nation's Capital early next week.
"We can't keep spending $50 million a day on foreign oil from countries from Saudi Arabia and Venezuela, where they don't have very good environmental standards or human rights standards. We have some of the best environmental standards here in Alberta and Western Canada. Our oil and gas industry is just essential for the whole country. We employ lots of people around the country, in the oil and gas industry. It's essential," he continued.
Carrit says they'd also like to abolish Bill C-48, C-69 and carbon tax. Bill C-48 deals with regulations for oil tankers on the West Coast. Bill C-69 deals with impact assessments on projects.
"These are the issues we're dealing with here, and that's why we want our voices heard on Parliament Hill," Carritt said.
