A journey of 1,200 km ended with applause yesterday. Rance Cardinal of Lac Seul arrived in Humboldt, home of the Broncos hockey team.
"I've been saying one word pretty much the whole walk: unreal," said Cardinal, as he addressed supporters in Humboldt.
Cardinal was inspired to do the walk last month, after hearing about the tragic bus crash that claimed 16 lives and injured 13 others. While he packed a tarp to help give him shelter along the way, he said he hasn't needed it, due to the generosity of others along the way.
At the reception, Cardinal was presented with a ceremonial feather, blanket and a flag signed by all the students in the community.
"Unreal is my word for saying this is happening, but in my mind it still has to sink in," he said, in response to the warm welcome.
