Community Mobilization Officer with the Kenora OPP, Bob Bernie, is running for a seat on city council.
Bernie has long been involved in a variety of community-based initiatives, including bringing awareness to human trafficking in the area, community outreach, school and youth outreach, Rapid Intervention Services Kenora and the Kenora Substance Abuse and Mental Health Task Force. In 2011, Bernie was named the OPP’s Officer of the Year.
Bernie is the first resident to file his papers for a seat on council, while current councillor Dan Reynard is running for Mayor. Nominations have been open for close to a month.
Along with members of council, voters will also be electing trustees for local school boards. Frank Bastone is seeking another term for the Kenora Catholic District School Board. Cecile Marcino is running for another term with the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board.
Municipal voters go to the polls October 22 across the province.
