Heather Bird is running for a seat on the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board, and she talks about her reasons for running.
"There are a lot of special needs in our region, and because I kind of have a unique perspective on that one, I think that's where my biggest strength is," she said.
Bird noted her youngest son has special needs. He's been diagnosed with Pitt-Hopkins Syndrome, which means he's almost nine-years-old, but functions at the level of a 13-month-old.
"It's a whole new education for me just getting him in there, getting (him) settled and making sure he's happy and learning," she noted.
She also has experience working with school councils, as well as the special education and parent involvement committees.
