The Canadian Competition Bureau will examine retail gasoline prices in northwestern Ontario.
The investigation comes as a response to a request submitted by Kenora Rainy-River MPP Greg Rickford.
The Bureau intends to gather further data and contact industry participants for information, as required.
Since 2008, 33 individuals and 12 companies have pleaded or been found guilty of fixing the price of gasoline in several markets in Ontario and Quebec as a result of investigations by the Competition Bureau.
