The City of Kenora will be seeing a significant increase in tax revenues from Canadian Pacific in 2018. Council has passed a resolution that approves a rate increase for all railway properties.
This comes after Ontario gave municipalities the green light to increase levies for high-tonnage rail lines. Kenora currently has three railway properties that qualify for the rate increase.
Currently, the city receives over $100 per acre from the company, but that may reach $300 with the new resolution. The Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association brought the matter to the Association of Municipalities of Ontario in 2015.
