Fire crews and police officers responded to the Kenora Jail this evening. The OPP confirm that they got the call just after 5:30 p.m.
Staff with the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services weren't able to discuss what had created the activity.
They said an investigation into last month's hostage-taking remains ongoing. The province has been working with partners to improve conditions at the district jail, including the hiring of staff and the reduction of inmates awaiting court dates through reforms to the bail process. Support services have been offered to staff at the jail, including the guard who was taken hostage.
