The sound of gunfire may be heard Saturday in parts of Kenora. The 116th independent field battery may also be using barbed wire, sandbags and barricades. It's all part of their training.
National Defences says soldiers participating in the exercise will wear Canadian Army uniforms and personal protective equipment, and carry service rifles loaded with blank ammunition. Simulated gun fire may occasionally be heard from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday on the armouries premises.
Organizers say the exercise is part of the unit’s annual refresher training for core skillsets such as defensive routine, vehicle check points, observation posts, and rules of engagement – a requirement to ensure all members are adequately trained to deploy on various operational deployments overseas.
