Even though the summer season is drifting away, residents should still practice fire safety.

With high winds in the area recently, the forest fire hazard is high across the region, with a number of areas showing extreme hazards.

There were nine new fires confirmed in the region recently, for a total of 59 active fires. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry note that the fires are a mixture of lightning, and human-caused fires. The areas of Kenora, Dryden, Fort Frances, Sioux Lookout, and Red Lake are all dealing with the fires.

The MNRF are also still sending help elsewhere. Aircraft resource units have been deployed to Manitoba and the United States. Each unit is comprised of two CL-415 heavy water-bombers and pilots, a Birddog Aircraft and an Air Attack Officer. There are currently 296 personnel supporting firefighting efforts out of province.
