Firefighters are still working on a fire near Washagamis Bay First Nation on Lake of the Woods this evening.
Police were called to the community shortly after 3:30 p.m., as they wanted to keep community members indoors, as waterbombers dropped water on a forest fire.
The OPP say no injuries were reported at 6 p.m., but they weren't able to talk about any damage to homes.
Crews from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry had contained the fire, but it wasn't considered extinguished.
The ministry reported there were four new fires confirmed in the Northwest Region by the end of the day on Friday May 11. These fires occurred in the following districts: Thunder Bay, Fort Frances, Red Lake, and Kenora. These fires are either out or being held.
The forest fire hazard is forecast to be high across the Northwest Region.
Warm temperatures and sunny skies over this weekend are expected to escalate the fire hazard across the region. Residents are advised to follow local burning restrictions and exercise extreme caution with campfires and open burning.
