A four-year-old child is recovering in hospital, after he was hit by a vehicle on Shoal Lake 40 earlier today.

Treaty 3 Police Service say they've identified the driver, and their investigation is continuing.

Officers responded to the island community Friday morning, along with paramedics. The child was taken to Lake of the Woods District Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The OPP tehcnical traffic collision unit and the northwest region's forensic identification unit were also called in to assist.
