Military veterans will soon be able to fish for free in Ontario. Starting in early 2019, fishing regulations will be amended to allow veterans and active Canadian Armed Forces members who reside in Ontario to enjoy free recreational fishing.
“The people of Ontario are grateful for the service of our veterans and active Canadian Armed Forces members who have, and continue to defend our freedom and values,” said Kenora Rainy-River MPP Greg Rickford.
“Recreational fishing is an important part of the lives of many Ontarians, especially here in Northwestern Ontario. This is a small way we can show our gratitude and respect for the heroes who have served for our country.”
The announcement was made earlier this month as the provincial government aims to make life easier for veterans and their families. Other announcements included more services for family of active military members, and keeping Ontario's legion halls exempt from municipal property taxes.
