Kenora's new art gallery will add economic activity, along with cultural diversity.
"I think there's going to be a lot of growth in the art gallery, other than the Douglas collection," said Mayor Dave Canfield Friday. "I think we're going to see we've got a lot of fantastic local artists. I think the future's going to be very bright, and it's just going to be fantastic."
Supporters held a groundbreaking ceremony yesterday. The $4.5 million project should be completed next year.
"We also recognize that arts are a huge economic driver," added Lori Nelson, who has been leading the fundraising campaign for the project, when she isn't overseeing the operation of the Lake of the Woods Museum. "So, we see this as being an economic development driver, and I think the economic development commission sees it that way, as well."
