City staff in Kenora are working to replace wood chips with artificial turf at Garrow Beach, but it could cost up to $75,000, and it'll take a while. The work is being tendered, and contractors will still have to be hired to do the work.
Parents were concerned the wood chips weren't safe for young children, and they made a deputation to city council earlier this month. The city also wants to make sure the area is accessible for people with disabilities. Sand isn't considered to be very accessible.
City staff note they are also investigating options for the city's other beaches, but no decisions have been made.
