Kenora, Minaki, Redditt and surrounding areas may still find a lot of smoke in the air this morning.
This is due to a forest fire approximately 30 kilometers north of Wabaseemong First Nation (Whitedog). The lightning-caused fire was discovered Sunday and was reported to be 100 hectares in size and has since grown to over 2,000.
With the intense growth of the fire, over 20 wildland firefighters from Saskatchewan arrived at the Northwest Region Headquarters yesterday before being deployed.
The forest fire hazard is currently high in the Kenora and Dryden Districts. Moderate conditions prevail in the Fort Frances, Thunder Bay and southern portions of the Red Lake and Sioux Lookout Districts.
