The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board and the Kenora Catholic District School Board say they're in a 'hold and secure,' but they haven't been able to pass along details.
According to the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board's policies:
“Hold and Secure” should be used when it is desirable to secure the school, due to an ongoing situation outside and not related to the school (e.g., a bank robbery occurs near a school but not on school property). In this situation, the school continues to function normally, with the exterior doors being locked until such time as the situation near the school is resolved.
Parents are asked not to attend the schools to check on their children.
The OPP have been contacted, along with the school board, for further information.
