Construction plans for a housing development on Railway Street in Kenora could be derailed by an environmental assessment. Mayor Dave Canfield says enough is enough.
"It's gotten to the point where we're starting to realize how stupid it is," he said yesterday. "A good example is the sewer and water connection. An environmental assessment that could take eight months?"
Canfield says the assessment duplicates work already done, and he'll be talking with provincial cabinet ministers next month about the issue.
Kenora is among the many communities in the northwest, where a shortage in housing is considered an obstacle to economic growth.
