Sol Mamakwa's hoping tonight's the night. He's running for the NDP nomination in Kiiwetinoong.
"I've lived in a remote community. I understand the challenges," says the member of Kingfisher Lake. "Sometimes people forget the uniqueness, the challenges of The North."
Party members are expected to choose their nominee this evening. The NDP currently represents the area at Queen's Park, but it looks like a close contest this time around.
If successful in getting his party's nomination, Mamakwa will be running against Sioux Lookout Mayor Doug Lawrance, who is representing the governing Liberals. Lac Seul Chief Clifford Bull could be in cabinet, if the anticipated Tory wave sweeps Doug Ford into office.
"I've worked with both very well in health. You know, I wish them well. We will work together very well, no matter what," Mamakwa said.
"Working in health for the last decade, I'm beyond the blaming game," he added. "I like to promote opportunities, working together."
The provincial election is set for June 7.
