It was a moment when faith became reality, as Missy Jacobson sang with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra at the Whitecap Pavilion. It seemed fitting that they chose Journey's Don't Stop Believing for their selection, which she sang for a standing ovation.
In many ways, it was a perfect evening at the harbourfront, as the weather cooperated for conductor Alexander Micklethwaite's final visit. Maestro Daniel Raiskin joins the orchestra for the 2018-2019 season.
After a more formal first half with some Mozart and Dvorak, the orchestra switched to more of a pops program for the second half, including some theme music from Harry Potter and Star Wars.
It all made for a unique opportunity for T.A. students Julia Tkachuk and Haley Yakiwchuk, who were allowed to sit on stage with orchestra members.
"It's amazing," said Tkachuk. "It's a very cool experience. Being surrounded by all the instruments and hear everything."
Yakiwchuk agreed saying, "It's really amazing. It's so cool being up there, getting to watch the instruments and all the sheet music."
