Kenora's getting a community justice centre. They're meant to help improve public safety by helping offenders break the cycle.
A location has not yet been set for the hub. The Kenora courthouse handles just over 3,000 cases a year. About one in six involve serious crimes, such as murder, sexual assault or robbery.
The province is moving ahead with a justice centre in kenora. They're also looking at a satellite facility for Sioux Lookout.
Roughly 72 per cent of inmates at the Kenora Jail are from Nishnawbe Aski Nation. However, a case can take more than three months to resolve, and a lack of affordable housing is an issue for members of remote communities.
