The City of Kenora has announced the purchase of land to help with downtown parking.
The City is paying $481,771 plus-HST for 2.2 acres of land that will be used for more than 100 parking spots on the old mall property where Zellers used to be.
Financing will be provided by the Future Land Development Reserve Fund.
“It is the role of council to strategically plan for the city to include the priorities and projects that will place Kenora in a stronger position in the future,” Canfield said in a press release earlier today. “Council feels this strategic property purchase will place us in a positive position for future planning in the downtown area.”
The land has been purchased from Plaza Retail REIT, who acquired the land when it bought the Kenora Shoppers Mall in August 2015. Plaza Retail REIT is in the process of transforming the mall into the Park Street Plaza.
