Men in Kenora may have some sore feet this morning, after participating in the Walk a Mile in her Shoes event yesterday.
The event aimed to raise awareness in their community about the serious causes, effects and remediation to men’s sexualized violence against women. Men walked down Kenora’s Harbourfront in bright-red heels, to bring the community together to talk about the difficult issue.
“We are currently trying to dispel any myths out there, and to share information. We’re trying to take away the stigma about talking about violence. There’s a lot of support in our community,” said Donna Hendrickson, KSAC’s anti-human trafficking coordinator.
“There are a lot of indicators that human trafficking is happening in Kenora. Slavery hasn’t gone away, it’s just changed its face.”
This was the fifth annual fund-raising event – hosted by the Kenora Sexual Assault Centre. Funds go towards the Women’s Needs Fund at KSAC.
