It’s the last day Greyhound Bus Lines will be servicing northwestern Ontario. The familiar transportation service will also be discontinuing service in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, and cancelling all but one route in B.C.
The decision was made back in July,. With the company citing a 41-percent drop in ridership, increased competition from subsidized national and inter-regional passenger services, the new entry of ultra-low-cost carriers, regulatory constraints and increased car travel.
Kasper Transportation, out of Thunder Bay, said they would fill the gap left by Greyhound.
The company currently offers the following routes; Thunder Bay to Fort Frances, Thunder Bay to Longlac, Thunder Bay to Sioux Lookout, Sioux Lookout and Winnipeg, Sioux Lookout and Red Lake, and Winnipeg and Selkirk.
