Kenora's airport authority was nominated for innovation and excellence, as part of this year's Canadian Tourism Awards. In the end, the winner was the Gaetan Gagne facility in Quebec City, and another runner-up was Vancouver International.

McDougald International opened at the end of September, and it hopes to attract new carriers.

McDougald has been with the airport authority for more than 30 years. Kenora's airport is one of only two in the province operated by a volunteer board.
