The province's minister for children's services, Lisa MacLeod, says she'll work collaboratively on swift changes. She was responding to questions in the legislature about the chief coroner's report on the deaths of 12 youth in care.
"My heart goes out to the families, the loved ones and communities affected by these tragedies. The deaths are unacceptable and I'm going to take immediate action. We need to do more to make sure children are safe and cared for," she said. "
During Question Period, the minister said the deaths of the children in care was unacceptable. MacLeod said she would include the minister for Indigenous affairs, Kenora-Rainy River MPP Greg Rickford.
A decade ago, the death of a teen in Kenora was part of the child advocate's initial report. It looked at the deaths of 90 children associated with the child protection system within 20 years.
