Jordan Temple has good news for parents and students, who may be struggling with math.
"There's going to be a math support in all of our elementary schools now," Temple said, after a presentation with trustees on the Kenora Catholic District School Board.
The added help will be available to assist with strategies and activities for teachers as well as students, when they're needed, Temple noted.
"It's not just the old style of drill and kill. We want to have them engaging in activities -- game-based activities sometimes -- but games that are built around those concepts that they need to develop," he emphasized.
Back in August, the Ministry of Education released a teacher's guide and a parent fact sheet. They highlighted some of the key math concepts and skills in the current curriculum.
For the past five years, the ministry noted there has been an overall decline in Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) math scores.
