Treaty 3 Grand Chief Francis Kavanaugh says his members should be involved in health care changes.
"First Nations represent 14 per cent of the population, but yet those requiring any kind of medical attention -- or other clinical services -- we represent 82 per cent," he said.
"That's why I say a First Nations health facility has to be First Nations driven," he noted.
Chiefs with Grand Council Treaty 3 have been involved in talks with municipal councils, as they talk about health care reform, including the creation of a new all-nations hospital.
The province has also been looking at reforming the health care system in the district, which could involve joining First Nations agencies with provincially-operated ones.
