Police have laid a second-degree murder charge against a 57-year-old man. Steven R. Young of Kenora is in custody, after he was arrested Saturday night in connection with the death of a 63-year-old man.

According to the OPP, officers responded at approximately 5:57 p.m. Saturday evening to a disturbance at a downtown apartment block in the City of Kenora.

The police report says the victim was transported by the North West Emergency Medical Services to Lake of the Woods District Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Young appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice yesterday, and the accused is being held in custody.

A statement from police released earlier today says members of the OPP North West Region Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Services -- under the direction of Det./Insp. David MacDonald of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch -- are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
