Constable Jim Davis of the OPP is encouraging snowmobilers to be more careful on the ice.
"What we're seeing is an increased number of calls for service, regarding people being stuck on the ice, which does raise concerns for other family members that know people are out and haven't returned on time," he said.
Davis says a combination of snow drifts and slush have made travel difficult in some areas. As result, he suggests some safety tips:
- A plan that they've shared with a family member or friends, so they can have expectations of when they'll be returning from their activities, and also
- Have an emergency plan so, if you are stuck you know what to do, in order to get out of that situation
Davis noted officers from the OPP rescued snowmobilers from both Rainy River and the Lake of the Woods over the weekend.
