Officers with the Kenora OPP are taking a close look at the numbers, so they can figure out the best way to reduce the crime rate in the community. Jeff Duggan is the detachment commander, and he notes the city's ranking in a recent Maclean's article didn't come as a surprise.
"We had the most violent year we've ever had -- since the OPP took over -- in 2017. That was no secret to us," he said.
According to the magazine, Kenora ranked 31st on a list of more than 200 communities, when it came to measuring violent crime in cities over 10,000 people. Duggan noted there may have been other communities in the district with higher ratings, except they didn't have populations of 10,000 or more.
