The Lake of the Woods District Hospital is no longer considered to be in a gastrointestinal outbreak.
“Through the hard work of our staff, the Northwestern Health Unit, and the cooperation of the public, we were able to end the GI outbreak within one week,” said President and CEO of the hospital, Mark Balcaen, in a prepared release.
However, residents who are feeling unwell are still asked to not visit patients in the hospital. Balcaen adds that staff would like to thank the public for their cooperation.
On May 24, the hospital declared the outbreak and asked residents who were not feeling well to not visit the hospital. Staff say that it was a precautionary measure to protect the health of their patients. A gastrointestinal illness broke out in Kenora’s hospital last November, which lasted for six days.
