It was a great day for the Labour Day picnic. Donna Wiebe's with the Kenora District Labour Council.
"It's a celebration of all labour's achievements in our workplaces, for our community, for people that are in need," she said.
With a new government at Queen's Park, unions are concerned about labour standards and the minimum wage. Drug plans and pharmacare, along with safety in the workplace and job security are also at the top of the list.
Wiebe added the event is also a way to attract new members.
"We need new people, the younger people, to carry on the traditions of labour and why labour is so important. That is why we keep this picnic going," she added.
With municipal elections set for the fall, organizers were also happy to see a few more members of council attending. The volunteers also recognized Dave Canfield for his many years of service, since he isn't going to be running for re-election.
