Tianna Fobister of Grassy Narrows was among the many powwow princesses and braves at Powwow Island in Wauzhushk Onigum over the weekend. Her favourite part is the fancy dance.

"I enjoy it, like, when you spin," she says with a grin.

Fobister was joined by her friends at the weekend event, as well as teen brave Cedric Herbert.

"It's good. I find you make new friends and you could dance and win money," he said, before showcasing his grass dancer regalia.

Mini princess Aiyana Cameron was also happy to show off her new crown.

"I danced really hard, and I did the beat," said the five-year-old between songs.

After a break next week, the summer powwow trail moves on to The Dalles, Sakeeng and Northwest Bay. Of course, drummers and dancers will come from all around for the Eagle Lake event on the August long weekend.
