Opposition critics at Queen's Park says the province has lost about 6,600 manufacturing jobs since the last election. Catherine Fife of the NDP says Premier Doug Ford is waving goodbye, as jobs move south to Mexico. The most recent was the closure of the GM plant in Oshawa.
“The Ford government is behaving neither predictably nor transparently in its dealings with business, investors, or Ontarians and we’re beginning to see some of the impacts of that,” said Fife.
“When plans are hidden, it makes it harder for everyone to do business. It means that no one knows what will happen next, and that’s not good for our economy or our province in the long run,” Fife continued in a prepared statement.
Statistics Canada says the unemployment rate for the province has increased slightly to 5.6 per cent in November, up from 5.5 per cent last November.
