A Kenora father would like to see an innovative program for children expanded. Darby Spicer's the proud father of an 11-year-old boy, who doesn't mind talking about the success his family is having with self-regulation.
"Seeing other parents struggling with similar issues, as we were, helped my wife and I feel we weren't the only ones having trouble with our son. It also taught us we weren't failing as parents. We just needed some new tools for our toolbox," he said.
Spicer added the program allowed them to be on the same page as teachers at their son's school. Counsellors from Firefly are hoping the self-regulation program will get added resources from the province this spring, so they can expand the program to other parts of the district.
Firefly offers assistance to individuals and families from Atikokan to Sioux Lookout. The Stop Now And Plan (SNAP) program was introduced last year.
