Northern Development Minister Greg Rickford isn't happy about what he's finding, as he looks through MTO records for twinning the Trans-Canada.
"In particular, between Thunder Bay and Nipigon, there's 37 km of new four-lane highway," he says.
Rickford adds he's been frustrated, as he's finding out $100 million set aside for twinning the highway at the Manitoba border may already have been spent.
The money was set aside more than nine years ago, and Rickford doesn't agree that First Nations are responsible for the delay.
First Nation leaders have said they would be willing to support twinning, once Freedom Road is complete. This is expected next year.
MTO has said there may be other preliminary work necessary, before construction begins on twinning.
