Jason Canfield is the community services officer with the Kenora detachment of the OPP, and he's reminding drivers to stay safe on the roads.
"The Ontario Provincial Police want to make sure that everyone wants to have a safe and happy new year. We would like to remind the public that RIDE are still in effect. If you choose to consume alcohol or drugs, please make sure you don't drink and drive," he said.
"We would like to make sure that everyone gets home safe over the holiday season. Impaired driving by drugs and alcohol is known to cause serious collisions. Please get home safe," he continued.
Police are also encouraging drivers to stay off their electronic devices, as steep penalties will be in effect in the New Year.
With a windchill of - 38 possible overnight, motorists should also have emergency supplies, in case of a mechanical problem or delay.
