Three suspects have been arrested and charged, following an investigation into the theft of firearms on Lake of the Woods. Thieves broke into a vehicle near French Narrows. After further investigation, a cottage near Chapel Island had also been the scene of a break-in.

The firearms -- including a prohibited or restricted weapon -- have been recovered, and the suspects were scheduled for a court appearance today in Kenora to answer the charges.

As a result of this investigation, three adult males have been charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada:

  • Theft under $5,000, Section 334(b)
  • Break and Enter and steal a Firearm, Section 98(1)(b)
  • Possession of a firearm, prohibited or restricted weapon obtained by crime, Section 96(a)
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon, Section 91(1)

A publication ban was put in place at the request of the defence counsel, prohibiting police from releasing the names of the suspects.
