Police in Red Lake are searching for more information regarding two vehicle thefts, and have charged a resident following a confrontation with police.

On July 20, officers with the Red Lake OPP were conducted a patrol on-foot within the municipality, when they came upon a group of intoxicated persons. One of the intoxicated individuals allegedly became confrontational with police during the arrest, and attempted to disarm one of the officers.

As a result, 61-year-old William Sukiennik of Red Lake has been charged with disarming a peace officer and resisting a peace officer. He is set to appear in Red Lake Court next month.

Police are investigating an incident where a vehicle was stolen between the hours of 5 p.m. on July 21, and 8:45 p.m. on July 22. The vehicle was taken from Hammell road in Red Lake, and was discovered in the City of Kenora on July 23.

The vehicle is a white 2006 Dodge Ram. It is described as having a fibreglass box, steel boxes on the driver side, ladder attachment on the passenger side, bush bumper on the front, speaker on the roof and rotating orange lights on the roof.

Police are also searching for a suspect in relation to a vehicle that was taken between the evening of July 21 and 5 a.m. on July 22. The vehicle was taken from a Detta Road address in Balmertown.

The vehicle is a blue 2009 Pontiac G6 with an Ontario plate of CAAP336. The vehicle has now been recovered and returned to the owner. The Red Lake OPP continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the theft.

The Red Lake OPP is asking anyone that may have any information about either investigation to contact them at 1-888-310-1122, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
