There's a new option for people in Kenora, who don't have a doctor. Lorna Smith at the Medicine Shoppe talks about their new telemedicine clinic.
"I absolutely think it fills a gap. It's just a very small part of the problem, but I felt that if we continued doing things the same way, we were going to get the same results," she said.
Patients will still need to set up an appointment, before using the clinic. However, as Smith noted, it's still much quicker than waiting in the emergency room at the hospital.
A travelling couple were used to a walk-in clinic for a larger city, as they looked to refill a prescription. While they weren't able to be served right away, they were happy to go for lunch, then come back for a teleconference with a physician.
The new service has been offered since mid-June. Medical staff can help set up the appointment, and there are steps taken to keep medical information confidential.
