Hopefully the rain will hold off over the August Long Weekend, as residents have a variety of events to look forward to. Unfortunately, Environment Canada is calling for the chance of showers and possible thunderstorms until Tuesday.
“It looks like it’s going to be an unsettled weekend. For people who want the dry and fair weather, it’s not going to be good news,” said Environment Canada Meteorologist Gerald Cheng.
“We are looking at a risk of thunderstorms with these showers. The temperature can really affect the severity of the thunderstorms as well, with high to mid 20’s over the weekend, the heat and humidity may affect the severity of the thunderstorms.”
Cheng added that the rain and possible thunderstorms may calm down by Sunday, although they will still be a concern.
Over the weekend, residents can look forward to Sioux Lookout’s annual Blueberry Festival, the Eagle Lake Powwow, the Diamonds and Ice tournament in Kenora, an Agricultural Fair at the Kenora Recreation Centre, the Lake of the Woods Speedway’s season opener and Harbourfest 2018.
