Water line breaks are up again this year in Kenora. Operations manager Jeff Hawley has been keeping track of water line breaks over the course of the winter, and he says they've seen 58 so far. That's on par with numbers they saw in 2018, but up considerably from just 11 in 2017.
A consultant told council last year they would have to spend $3.6 million a year to cover the city's infrastructure deficit. Municipalities across the district have been looking for grants from Ottawa and Queen's Park, in order to reduce maintenance costs. The province has agreed to spend a million dollars on Phase 4 of Kenora's downtown revitalization. Ottawa has not yet made a commitment.
Water line breaks (through February):
- 2019 - 58
- 2018 - 58
- 2017 - 11
